Beginner’s mind

Stepping into the new

I’ve been doing something new and exciting this week – learning Adobe Fresco. It’s a kind of pocket-sized super hybrid of Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects. I made this animation on it. (Not sure what it’s about but I was drawing intuitively to test out its features, so don’t judge me.)

Adobe software has been part of my life since the beginning of time, so it’s been a while since I’ve had to adjust to anything that uses a different logic. However, Fresco is an iPad app, so there’s no drop-down menus, no palettes and no keyboard commands... in short, nothing that I’m used to. Gawk.

After trawling through a lot of vids online, the best Fresco illustrator/teacher I’ve found is Chris Piascik. He does loads of free stuff on Youtube but I’ve been doing more of a deep dive on Skillshare. His illustration work is solid and his dry sense of humour keeps the learning light and engaging. Here’s a link for a free taster month:

It’s been a great few days and I’m pretty excited about the potential. This beginner don’t mind.
